The important collection of anatomical wax models at Vienna’s Josephinum has for centuries held a special fascination. The many photographs in this illustrated book celebrate the beauty of anatomy as well as the great craftsmanship with which these medical teaching aids were produced in the eighteenth century. Prominent authors relate the history of the Josephinum, of the unique collection and its art-historical significance, and present the Josephinum in the field of tension between its history and present-day importance as a vibrant exhibition space.

Christiane Druml ist Juristin und Bioethikerin. Seit 2015 ist sie Direktorin des Josephinums und Leiterin des Instituts für Ethik, Sammlungen und Geschichte der Medizin sowie Inhaberin des UNESCO-Lehrstuhls für Bioethik an der Medizinischen Universität Wien. Sie ist Vorsitzende der Bioethikkommission beim Bundeskanzleramt der Republik Österreich. Von 2011 bis 2015 war sie Vizerektorin für Klinische Angelegenheiten der Medizinischen Universität Wien.
